Recycling and Sustainability at Storage Belsize Park
Storage Belsize Park is committed to offering clean, convenient storage with an eco-friendly waste disposal area and a carefully managed sustainable rubbish removal area. Our aim is to make it easy for customers to clear clutter responsibly, reduce landfill, and support the local community while storing with us.
Our Recycling Percentage Target
We have set a site-wide recycling target of at least 75 percent of all customer-generated waste. This means that for every four bags or loads of waste that come through our designated areas, we want at least three of them to be recycled or reused rather than sent to landfill or incineration.
To achieve this, we separate and sort waste on-site wherever practical and direct it towards appropriate recycling streams. We regularly review our performance against this target with our local waste partners and adjust our processes to improve recycling rates over time.
Eco-Friendly Waste Disposal Area
Our eco-friendly waste disposal area is designed to help customers separate materials easily and quickly. Clear signage and colour-coded bins guide you to place cardboard, mixed dry recycling, and general waste in the correct locations. Where possible, we work in line with the waste separation approach used across Camden and neighbouring boroughs, encouraging the separation of paper and card from mixed containers such as plastic bottles, tins, and cans.
Cardboard from house moves, business stock, and online orders is baled where possible to maximise its recycling value. We encourage customers to flatten boxes before placing them in the recycling area so we can transport more material using fewer journeys, reducing carbon emissions further.
Sustainable Rubbish Removal Area
For items that cannot stay in storage, our sustainable rubbish removal area provides a structured and responsible way to clear larger loads. Rather than treating everything as general waste, we prioritise reuse, recycling, and specialist disposal routes.
Furniture, small electrical appliances, and bric-a-brac in a reusable condition may be separated for potential donation through our charity partners. Metals, certain plastics, and wood are also sorted where facilities exist to ensure they can be recycled or recovered rather than disposed of as mixed rubbish.
We work hard to keep bulky waste out of landfill by combining careful on-site sorting with responsible off-site processing at licensed facilities.
Partnerships with Local Transfer Stations
Storage Belsize Park works with local transfer stations that comply with UK environmental regulations to handle the waste we cannot manage entirely on-site. These transfer stations play a key role in sorting, consolidating, and routing material to recycling facilities or energy recovery plants.
By using local stations, we reduce the mileage our waste must travel, which in turn cuts emissions associated with transport. The facilities we work with support borough-level priorities for increased recycling, improved material quality, and reduced reliance on landfill.
Working with Charities and Reuse Organisations
A significant part of sustainable waste management is reuse. Many customers discover items in their units that they no longer need but that still have life left in them. Where suitable, and where we have permission, we work with local charities and reuse partners who can make use of furniture, household goods, clothing, books, and small electricals.
These partnerships help to reduce waste, support community projects, and provide affordable items for people who need them. Whenever practical, we encourage customers to consider donation rather than disposal, particularly for items in good or nearly new condition.
Low-Carbon Vans and Transport Choices
Transport is a major contributor to carbon emissions, so we prioritise low-carbon options wherever possible. Storage Belsize Park is progressively integrating low-emission and hybrid vehicles into the transport services we work with for collections, deliveries, and rubbish removal runs.
By using fuel-efficient and low-carbon vans, we aim to lower the emissions associated with moving goods to and from our site, as well as transferring sorted waste and recyclables to local facilities. We also encourage customers to combine trips, share vehicles where appropriate, and plan journeys to cut down on unnecessary mileage.
Supporting Local Recycling Practices
Our approach is aligned with local borough recycling policies, which encourage residents and businesses to separate dry mixed recycling, food waste, and residual waste. While our on-site facilities are tailored to storage-related waste, we mirror these principles by promoting clear separation of recyclables and educating customers on what can and cannot be recycled.
Paper, card, clean plastics, metal packaging, and glass are all materials we aim to divert into appropriate recycling streams. Where special handling is required, such as for certain electrical items or hazardous materials, we provide guidance on available local services rather than allowing unsuitable items to enter the general waste stream.
Continuous Improvement and Customer Involvement
Our sustainability work is an ongoing process. We monitor the success of our eco-friendly waste disposal area and sustainable rubbish removal area, looking at the volume of waste generated, the proportion recycled, and the performance of our partners. This data helps us refine signage, bin placement, and staff training.
Customers play a crucial role in this effort. By taking a few extra moments to sort materials, flatten cardboard, and separate usable items for charity, you directly contribute to our 75 percent recycling target and to lower carbon emissions across the site. Together, we can make storage in Belsize Park more sustainable and more supportive of the local community.
